The Hanko

The representation of oneself all in a stamp and a handle.

Design Task:

Design a Hanko, a stamp with organs from Japan that is used as ones signature, for your client. This Hanko must embody the person and their passions. There must be extensive interviews in determining who the client is as a person and then designing something that will please them.

How to Use

About the Design:

As my client Toni has gone through life, she has seen growth in herself and how there is more growth to come. This stamp is a continuation of that idea. It also brings in the aspect of feel and sound to be correlated with the advances she will make.

The honestly in the materials is a tribute to her strong connections to loyalty. The materials create an object that can stand alone and act as a sculpture while not being used.

Every time the Hanko is used, a “seed” is planted on the work that the impression is stamped on. The impression continues through the handle and to the top of the handle that shows the “growth” of what she is improving on but stays a little messy as she is all over the place.
